13-39x70 Zoom Binoculars: Find the Animal at 13x, Judge It at 39x

Glassing a big piece of country is a two-step job. First you have to find something: a flicker of movement, a patch of color that doesn’t belong, an ear above the brush. Then you have to decide if it’s worth the walk. These 13-39x70 zoom binoculars handle both. At 13x, the wide field of view lets you sweep a hillside quickly. Push the zoom lever toward 39x and that brown shape across the canyon turns into an animal you can actually size up, without changing gear or losing your spot.

Why a 13-39x zoom is easier to live with than higher power

Big zoom numbers look impressive on a box, but every step up in magnification makes the image darker and shakier. The 13-39x range stays in a zone hunters can actually use. At 13x, with a 5.4mm exit pupil, the view is bright and steady enough to hold freehand for scanning. In the middle of the range, braced against a tree, a pack or a truck door, you get real detail. At 39x, on a tripod, you can read antlers and body condition at distances where fixed 10x binoculars only show a dot.

The 70mm objectives gather a lot of light, which matters most at legal shooting light. ED (extra-low dispersion) glass helps reduce the colored fringing you often see around high-contrast edges in zoom optics, like a dark animal against a bright sky, and BAK4 prisms keep the image crisp toward the edges.

13-39x70 ED Zoom Binoculars: Built for Glassing Open Country

These binoculars are at their best where distances are long and cover is thin: mule deer country, elk basins, pronghorn flats, cut corn at the edge of a woodlot. Set up on a ridge, scan at 13x until something catches your eye, then zoom in and take your time. For wildlife watchers, the same approach works for a moose in a far meadow, a herd on the opposite slope or a raptor perched across a valley.

The IPX4 rating protects them against splashes and light rain. They aren’t built to be submerged, so in a steady downpour, keep them under your jacket or in the case between looks. The ribbed rubber armor gives a sure grip with cold or wet hands.

A Sharper Look Worth Waiting For

Good glassing is patient work. Find a solid rest, settle your elbows, and grid the hillside one section at a time at 13x. When something moves, don’t rush: roll the zoom slowly, touch up the focus wheel, and let the detail come in. Fifteen minutes of careful glassing from one spot often shows you more than an hour of walking.
